Overview & Highlights

Welcome to MA&JA Cafe, a delightful haven nestled in the heart of Widnes at 21, Albert Square. This charming coffee shop brings a fresh wave of culinary excitement, offering an enticing array of specialty lattes and teas that promise to awaken your senses. Each visit here is not just about sipping coffee; it's an experience that combines quality, warmth, and artistry in every cup.

Among the standout offerings are the Salted Caramel Hazelnut Latte and the exotic Matcha Honey Latte, each priced at £4.50 and £4.80, respectively. These drinks offer a balance of rich flavors and delicate notes that will leave coffee enthusiasts rejoicing.

Mood-boosting teas like the Superfood Yellow Berry Tea and elegant While Blossom Tea, both priced at £5.25, showcase MA&JA’s commitment to quality ingredients. These teas are ideal companions to the café’s delicious homemade treats.

Speaking of treats, the homemade chocolates, notably the White Chocolate With Pistachio & Rose at £4.80, promise a sweet ending that you won't forget. The desserts have garnered impressive reviews from locals, with flavors that have captivated even the most discerning palates. One customer, Claire Pitt, raved about the wild cherry honeycake and pistachio cake, remarking on the delightful pairing with their tea.

The atmosphere of MA&JA Cafe is as inviting as the menu. Patrons are greeted with the warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the friendly smiles of attentive staff. This place not only serves food but also creates an experience; it’s a community hub where strangers can sit and chat as easily as friends. As noted by Karen Fearn, the service is above and beyond, and the cleanliness adds to the comfortable vibe.

While some patrons have noted the menu could use more vegetarian and pescatarian options, the café's charm and the quality of fresh, home-cooked meals have won over many. As Mellor mentioned, the café wouldn’t feel out of place in more cosmopolitan areas like Lark Lane or Knutsford Village. When the quality of food and service reigns supreme, small menus become an afterthought.

Whether you are stopping by for a quick coffee or a leisurely dessert, MA&JA Cafe is a splendid addition to Widnes that elevates the local café scene. With its range of delightful beverages, homemade pastries, and welcoming environment, this café invites you to indulge in a little slice of joy. It’s not just a coffee shop; it’s a place where memories are brewed and shared. Make sure to pay them a visit—you’ll be glad you did.

Visitor Testimonials (263)

I had the pleasure of visiting the new café in Widnes not once, but twice, and both times were absolutely brilliant! The wild cherry honeycake and pistachio cake on my first visit were a dream, paired perfectly with a great cup of tea. I couldn’t wait to go back, and my second visit did not disappoint—especially the mango cheesecake, which was so good we had to buy extra to take away for a friend’s birthday. The friendly staff and cosy atmosphere make this place a real gem. Widnes is lucky to have it!

I only discovered this gem by accident on my way for an eye test. The food is very good and all freshly made to order. There is a small but good selection, could do with more options for vegetarians and pescitarians, but some menu items can be tweaked. The service is top notch, very clean and atmospheric. I previously wrote a review about Albert Square and commented that it needed saving, well this little, perfectly formed café could be part of the answer. Oh if you love desserts you will not be disappointed, I'm not a cake lover but they look amazing. It's also dog friendly.

The fact that this place is in widnes town centre is absolutely wild! It wouldn't be out of place in lark lane, knutsford village or similar. The menu although quite small was affordable and all home cooked. Quality was unbelievable and service was above and beyond. Staff attentive and polite. All of this, though was over shadowed by the selection and excellence of the cakes/pastrys. Cannot recommend enough!

It's a café where the aroma of coffee greets you at the door, perfect music plays in the background, and the staff are all smiles. Everything tastes exquisite! It's a pity we don't have such a wonderful place in Scotland...

It was our first time at ma&ja cafe yesterday. The cakes were amazing and there are lots to choose from. The sourdough bread is well worth the price - £5 for a large loaf. All of the staff were friendly and the service was quick. The cafe is very popular. We will return - it's a superb addition to Widnes town.

Went here today for the first time and only because our usually place was full. I’m sooo glad it was full because I probably would never have known about this little gem. We ordered food and then cakes to take away it was honestly the nicest food, the service was amazing really nice guy who bought our food then served us our take away cake. The prices are a little more than other places but honestly it’s so worth it and plus the price margin you know you’re not getting any riff raff! Which is perfect!! They’re clearly elderly regulars that go in and the staff are extra special with them which was gorgeous to see. We cannot wait to go back here and we’re glad it’s in Widnes.

Ma&Ja's isn't just a coffee shop; it's a culinary institution that's redefined local dining. Their secret? A simple, unwavering commitment to quality. The legendary homemade cakes are a testament to true passion, each slice a perfect harmony of flavor and texture. The breakfast menu is nothing short of a masterpiece, turning simple morning meals into an unforgettable feast. But what truly sets them apart is the soul of the place—a warm, familial atmosphere that makes every customer feel like a long-lost friend. If you're searching for the best food in all of Cheshire and Merseyside, look no further. Ma&Ja's is not just a coffee shop; it's an experience you'll want to savor again and again.

Delicious food and super friendly service at Ma and Ja’s, couldn't recommend enough for a coffee, cake and natter
